Bombers Tie Defending Champs

The Bears-defending C league champions, could not hold on to their 4-1 lead and tied for the third time in three games this season. The Bombers perhaps buoyed by the return of Bomber icon Mike Gilbert, Sr to the lineup, never gave up after allowing the Bears the early advantage.

The absence of snow allowed Jimmy Lawson to also return to the lineup and he proceeded to bury two goals including a seeing eye backhand shot in the second period. But the goal of the night belonged to Bobby Calvano. Calvano, who was inspired by Tony D'anna to leave his flu like symptoms home, made the night worthwhile with the game tieing goal with 1:17 remaining in the period. Calvano was able to focus while being cross checked, to score on a sweet stick side, post hugging shot.

That's when the game got funky. After the ensuing faceoff Bomber defensemen Neil Van Der Horn found out that his head did not in fact rotate 360 degrees around his neck, no matter how hard the Bears #3 tried to make it do so. Tempers flared in defense of our mild mannered Ulfie. After an equally "mild mannered" conversation between Bobby Calvano and the officiating crew, it was decided that perhaps the remaining 19 seconds were not really necessary.

So a tie is not a loss and the Bombers build toward a new resurgence.
