Amazing Comeback Earns Point

Bomber magic was in full form last night. Down 4-1 to the Spartans the Bombers rallied to score 3 goals in the final minute and eleven seconds. The shootout was ultimately won by the Spartans but the Bombers still can be happy earning a point in a game that looked to be lost.

The three goal burst started when Neil Van der horn jumped into the play and kept the puck in the zone and eventually to left winger Tony D'anna who beat the Spartan keeper. When Eric Hoyer then scored at 28 seconds later off a pass from Gary Simpson the Bombers all of a sudden had legitimate life. And at 17 seconds Hoyer explained "I saw it pinball underneath their goalie and go in." referring to Bill Auld's tying goal with 17 seconds remaining.

"What a game" said Bomber Mike Gilbert Sr. What a game indeed.

Bombers, Burke, Shutout Preds

Call it revenge for ousting the mighty Bombers from last season's playoffs, but the Bombers took out some frustrations on the Predators with a resounding 3-0 victory to raise their record to 3-0.

Josh Burke was a fortress in net stopping 36 Predator shots. "The D played great. They forced their forwards wide and most shots were from long range." said Burke deflecting the praise given to him as the #1 Star of the game.

Mike Rosenberg scored for the second straight game, netting 2 on the evening. Tony D'anna was part of both Rosenberg goals, with 2 assists.

The game also marked the second in a row where a portion of one of the Bombers equipment was "taken" from the locker room. After Bill Auld's skates were absent from last game, Mike found he had no pants and was forced to wear a fan's hockey pants. A thrill I'm sure for the fan in question.

So the Bombers start the season 3-0 and await the Spartans on Monday.

8-7-6-5 SCORE!!!!!!

Michael Rosenberg the familiar #3 scored one of the more memorable goals of his career-a career that has seen him score many many goals-on Monday vs the Storm. Rosenberg got the Storm goalie George Plastoka, out of position scoring a goal on the short side with 5 seconds remaining in what was a 1-1 tie. "I had three shots on him late there. The last one had him stretching so far across the crease he couldn't get it. I'm glad to end a drought with a goal like that." said Rosenberg.

Hardly a drought, Mike hasn't been on the scoresheet only because he has been unavailable to play until late last season. If form holds true, and it looks like it has, Rosenberg will find himself lighting the lamp as he always has as the greatest Bombers goal scorer in franchise history.

The game was hard fought with neither team allowing too many odd man rushes. Bomber foward Rober' Auld may have had the best early Bomber chance when he juked the Storm defender to go in all alone after taking a chip pass from Tony D'anna. But Plastoka was equal to the task stopping the wrister to keep the Bombers off the board. The Storm's best chance of the evening came in the second period when their high flying defenseman Mike Delon found time and space and went in one on one with Bomber Dave Smith. But as quickly as the play started it was ended with a deft pokecheck by the reliable #22.

Neil Van der horn tallied 2 assists on the evening to go with a 2min slashing penalty and Eric Hoyer notched his first goal of the summer giving the Bombers an early lead.

Josh Burke stopped 16 of 17 shots to increase his season save percentage to an impressive .919.

Next up for the Bombers-one the Bombers have circled on their calendars-a rematch of the team the ousted them in the spring playoffs- the pesky Predators.

Game Notes:

Bomber foward Bill Auld noted "that game went fast-felt like only two periods." Could that be a result of his superb conditioning or his mental acuity?

With the win the Bombers are off to a 2-0 start. The last 2-0 start for the Bombers-the Summer 2009 Championship season.

Kostrowski Takes Early PIM Lead

With a tripping penalty with 7:52 left in game, Bomber D stalwart Brian Kostrowski jumped out into the early season penalty minute lead. "Bill had 2mins so I thought I should go for 4." said Kostrowski.

In other news the Bombers won the game 5-2. The Bombers didn't score first but did put up 5 in a row against the defending league champion Puck Pimps. Bill Auld led the with 4 goals and an assist despite the tauntings of a diminutive Puck Pimp, #8 Bruno. "He said I was too old-I said well-Thats Bomber Hockey." said Auld. Bruno himself ended the night with a tantalzing zero goals and zero assists.

Dave Smith scored the first goal of the night on a rifle from the point midway through the second period. "I'm climbing up the stat ladder." noted Smith. Always steady Eric Hoyer had 3 assists. The Left Side was well represented as Gary Simpson had 2 assists including one in which he deftly stole the puck at the blue line-quickly giving the Bombers a three on one. Then a fine saucer pass to Bill and the Bombers were ahead 2-1-never looking back.

Josh Burke and the defense frustrated the Puck Pimps all night. Burke stopped 18 of 20 and Mike Gilbert Sr and the rest of the D blocked the rest.

The game also marked the triumphrant return of #5 Neil Van der horn or Viachaslav Vanderchuck as he now prefers to be called. The Bombers may need to sign an extension with Vanderchuck or potentially lose him to the KHL.

So the Bombers start the summer well, knocking of the champs and waiting for a Monday July 19 matchup with the Storm.
