Lawson Inks Long Term Deal to Stay with Bombers

Bomber GM Bill Auld announced Tuesday that foward Jimmy Lawson signed a long term deal to stay with the Bomber Hockey Organization, confirming what many Bomber fans had heard was in the works.

Lawson said, "This is a special day for me. My mind was made up that this is where I wanted to play. I mean look at the history of the players who have put on the Bomber sweater. This is probably the biggest moment in my hockey career so far. I just want to help contribute to the great tradition of the red, gold and blue."

Bombers Look to Next Season After 1st Round Playoff Loss

The Bomber Hockey Club lost to the Bears 9-3 last night in a disappointing return to the playoffs. The storied Bomber franchise, with 6 League Championships on their resume, will now have to focus on next season.

"Hey look, it was a bad night for us. But we are the Bombers and this is Bomber hockey. Our boys will come back next season and lace 'em up again with the same energy and enthusiasm we always bring." said Bomber captain Bill Auld.

Bombers Slip Up-Lose to Last Place Metro Fire

Secure in their playoff position, the Bombers appeared to look past the last place Metro Fire on Sunday in a lackluster game. With nothing to lose the Metro Fire came out gunning for the Bombers in a effort to salvage what has been another dismal season.

Metro used an aggressive forecheck and a chippy demeanor to skate past the Bombers who will play the Bears in next week's first round playoff matchup. Two even strength Metro goals in the 2nd proved to be enough as they won 3-1 for only the second win of their season.

Bobby Calvano, fresh of a stint on the DL with a "groin injury", scored the Bombers only goal.

Lawson Scores 5 in Bombers Tie with First Place Mounties

Jimmy Lawson had his best night as a Bomber, himself equalling the Mountaineers goal total of 5, but the Bombers couldn't get the win or help from the officials and settled for a 5-5 tie last night at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.

After the game Lawson commented "I was really in groove-I was hitting my spots. Some nights you just feel it. I guess this was one of those nights." Seeing #18 was in a zone the Bombers capitalized by setting him up as much as possible to great results. Lawson might have had 6 goals if not for a questionable call from the men in stripes. Many Bomber players felt the Mountaineers goalie was intentionally knocking the net off its moorings which eventually proved costly as a goal was waived off in the second period.

The Bombers proved resourceful with many playing out of position due to the fact they were without their top 5 defensemen. And midway through the third, against a Mountaineer squad that had not lost all season, the Bombers found themselves up 5-2

But the Moutaineers quickly struck back and scored 33 seconds after Lawson's fifth goal to make it 5-3. They again scored late in the period to close within one. Then, with the Mounties amping up their attack, Mike Rosenberg was forced to take a tripping penalty with 1:31 and the Mounties pulled their goalie. With the ensuing 6 on 4 manpower advantage the Mountaineers staved off defeat by scoring with 11 seconds remaining.

"It was a bittersweet-I mean we played the top team well. But it's hard not to walk away with the win considering how well we played." said Bomber Rober' Auld.

Next up for the Bombers- the last place Metro Fire on Sunday.

Bombers Skate Past Shamrocks With Strong Team Effort

Behind solid goaltending, stout defense and creative scoring the Bombers beat the Shamrocks 6-3 on Sunday night. After going down 1-0 early in the 2nd period the Bombers fought back and scored 4 unanswered goals. When Gary Simpson added 2 goals in 39 seconds early in the 3rd period the game was out of reach for the Shamrocks.
The Bombers also got 2 goals from Jimmy Lawson and one each from John Zimnoch and Bill Auld.

With 2 defensemen out with "flu like symptoms", Mr. Versatilty, Neil Van der horn, stepped in and led the blueliners with an aggressive performance. Van der horn intimidated oncoming fowards with his "wrecking ball" style- thwarting two on ones, drawing penalties and mixing it up on more than one occasion.

Josh Burke, playing his second game with a broken middle finger (don't ask) was as good as he has been all season holding off the skilled Shamrock fowards.

The Bombers hope to continue their solid team play on Thursday when they face the first place Mountaineers in what many see as a playoff preview.

Multiple Streaks Come to end in Bombers 4-1 Loss

The Bombers lost 4-1 to the 2nd place Bears on Sunday and in the process ended both their 5 game winning streak and Mike Rosenberg's individual 9 game goal scoring streak.

Bomber captain Bill Auld got thrown out of the game early in the second period on a 5min spearing call that carries with it the automatic game misconduct penalty. Auld was quoted after the game as saying, "I'm really dissappointed that I let the team down tonight. I didn't intend to spear the guy but that is how the refs saw it. I didn't like it at the time but I have to honor their decision."

Josh Burke, playing with a broken finger, held the Bears scoreless in the third and when Jim Lawson was able to score on a sweet backhand shot early in the period the Bombers had some hope. But that's all the scoring the squad could muster as their record fell to 6-3-0.

The Bombers will enjoy a brief Thanksgiving break and get back to starting a new winning streak with a game Sunday Nov.25th vs the Shamrocks.

And fans make sure you get your tub of "The Pincher's-Hot Holiday Cranberry Sauce" available in stores. All proceeds go the "bucks for pucks" program which gives hockey pucks and soft drinks to deserving men's league hockey programs in the tri-state area.

Bombers Beat Chatham 7-6-Streaks Continue

The Bombers were able to make it 5 wins in a row and #3 made it 9 games in a row with at least one goal in Thursday's 7-6 win vs the Chatham Coaches. The Bombers fell down 2 goals early but countered with 5 unanswered and the rout looked to be on.

But the Bombers got complacent and sloppy play in front of backup goaltender Jimmy Biondi allowed Chatham (2-8-1) to get back into the contest. Chatham scored three goals in the final 12 minutes and things continued to get dicey when John Zimnoch took a tripping penalty with 1:32 remaining.

A strong penalty kill allowed the Bombers to hold onto the victory and they now find themselves in 3rd place at 6-2-0. The second place Bears have 5 more points but the Bombers have 3 games in hand.

A Sunday showdown with the Bears will give the Bombers the opportunity to test their skills against their 2nd place rivals.

3rd Annual Bombers vs NJ Devil Alumni Game to be Held Feb 10th

versus

Hockey fans all over the tri-state area are ecstatic about the announcement that The 3rd Annual charity hockey game between the Bomber Hockey Club and NJ Devil Alumni to benefit the Montville Educational Foundation will be held on Sunday February 10th 2008 @ 1:15pm.

Negotiations between the two clubs opened months ago but intensified early last week as representives from the Bomber Hockey Club worked out the final details with the Devil Alumni into the early morning hours on Thursday. Some of the sticking points in the discussions apparantly dealt with the fact the Bombers came so close to upsetting the Devil squad in their last meeting, losing 10-9. The Devil Alumni wanted the ability to have more than one Hall of Fame player on their roster if they so desired. This item was promptly agreed to by the Bomber representatives and final arrangements were made.

At the conclusion of the meetings, Bomber VP Mike Rosenberg emerged and proudly announced "Game on!!" Then General Manager Bill Auld was quoted as saying "It is another proud day for the most storied franchise in NJ adult ice hockey history."

Mr. Auld also announced that the venue for this historic contest will be moved from its previous home at the Mennen Arena to the recently renovated 2500 seat Richard J.Codey-South Mountain Arena in West Orange. Auld declared "This location will bring our game to a new fan base and we will be able to showcase our product in a very historic arena. Roseneberg added "The renovations they have done there are extraordinary."

Tickets go on sale shortly and will be available from the Codey Arena Box office, the Bomber Hockey Club and the Montville Educational Foundation.

Bombers Win Fourth Straight-Down Shamrocks 4-2

No amount of lucky charms could help the Shamrocks last Thursday as the Bombers won convincingly 4-2 winning their fourth straight in the process.

Gary Simpson "from the left side" scored 6:20 into the first period in a game the Bombers never trailed. Mike Rosenberg continued to extend his modern day Bomber record by scoring in his eighth straight game-scoring 4:29 into the second period.

Jimmy Lawson finished the scoring with 2 goals in the third.

Bombers Win Third Straight-4-3 Over Bears

The Bomber Hockey Club continued their recent surge by winning for the third straight game 4-3 over the Bears. The win avenges the Bombers 5-2 loss to the Bears on opening day.

Strong defense, some highlight saves from goaltender Josh Burke and a balanced offensive attack proved to be the recipe for victory. The Bombers played as close to a full 45 minutes as they have in some time and didn't let questionable officiating take them out of their game as has been the case in the past.

Dave Bochner proved to be a jack of all trades by providing tenacious backchecking, scoring a break-away goal, and assisting on Bill Auld's game winning goal. Bomber defenseman Neil Van der horn commented "Dave looked like big Mario Lemeiux on his goal-holding off the Bear backchecker and roofing the shot!!"

RW Mike Rosenberg extended his goal scoring streak to 7 games in the victory.

Bombers Hold on to Beat Chatham 6-5

2 late 3rd period goals by the Chatham Coaches turned what looked like an easy victory into a nail biter for the visiting Bomber Hockey Club. With the score 6-3, Chatham managed to score goals with 2:18 and 1:28 left in the third. Fortunately for Bombers, it proved to be too little too late.

While the Bombers have been winners of two straight, foward Jimmy Lawson said "all of us in that room did not like the way that game ended. But we did get a win, and that's what is most important."

Next up for the Bombers, a Sunday showdown with the Bears.

Zimnoch Scores, Zimnoch Scores, Zimnoch Scores, Zimnoch Scores

Superstar John Zimnoch scored 4 times from the blueline as the Bomber Hockey Club defeated Metro Fire 9-5 Thursday night. The win levels the Bombers record to 2-2 on the season.

Tony D'anna notched 4 assists, 2 on Zimnoch goals. The four points puts him atop the Bomber season scoring list with 1g-7a-8pts. D'anna also leads the club in PIM with 18.

The Bombers also got goals from Rober' Auld, Jim Lawson, Bill Auld, Mike Jr and Mike Rosenberg. With the goal, Rosenberg extended his goal scoring streak to 5 games going back to the last game of last season.

Rich Moss back in the lineup after missing three games stated, "The second period proved vital for us. Scoring 3 unanswered goals kinda put them on their heels and put the game out of reach."

versus

D'anna Ejected in Loss to First Place Mounties

Tony D'anna got ejected for . . . well no one really knows just yet in the Bombers 5-1 loss to the first place Mountaineers. The ejection came when the soft spoken D'anna objected to a mid ice check on his Cpt Bill Auld. D'anna stated after the game that he "felt like it was an opportunity lost. I mean if I knew I was going to get kicked out, I would have had some fun doing it. I still don't know what I said to offend him (the official)."

The game was somewhat closer than the 5-1 score with 2 of the first 3 Mountie goals going in off Bomber defensemen. "After that we were pushing and just trying to catch up" noted Bomber winger Neil Van der horn.

The Bombers were significantly outshot by nearly a 3-1 margin and the coaching staff looks to improve in that area for their next game versus the Metro Fire.

Floodgates Finally Open for Bombers in 13-6 Victory

Although somewhat dicey for the first two periods, the Shamrocks proved to be just the tonic the Bombers needed to get back to their winning ways. After going down 4-2 in the first period the Bombers fought back and outscored the depleted Shamrock squad 11-2 in the final 2 frames.

7 different scorers put the puck in the net for the Bombers with hatricks coming from the sticks of Mark Bochner (3g-1a)and Bill Auld (3g-1a) plus a 5 point night from Jimmy Lawson (2g-3a).

Rober' Auld (2g-1a) and Tony D'anna (1g-3a) also had big games in a night that saw the Bombers put up the most goals in franchise history.
