Puck Pimps Price a Little Too High for Bombers

The Puck Pimps have never played the Bombers in their team's history. They were excited as indicated by Pimp forward "Huggy Bear" Dupree when he said "That's the Bombers over there. Now I've made it as a hockey player."

The Puck Pimps used that excitement to jump on the Bombers early, scoring the first two goals of the game. "We always get an opponents best game. Every team is looking to take a crack at the storied franchise." said Bomber D-man Mike Gilbert, Sr. The Bombers were able to even the score by the end of the first but were never able to get lead falling eventually to the Pimps by a 6-5 score. A frenzy of activity with the goalie pulled provided hope but not a score in the final seconds.

The Bombers, shorthanded with injuries, played as the "Crazy Eights" for the 5th time this season. In the end a few more healthy bodies might have made the difference for the home team but don't look for the Bombers to use that as an excuse. "We could have won with more guys, but we still could have won with the eight we had." said Bomber Bill.

So redemption will have to wait until Sundays contest with the Red Dogs- a team the Bombers thought they had beat in their first meeting until letting up two late third period goals.

Injured Reserve List Grows

Add John Zimnoch to the list of Bombers currently on the injured reserve. Zimnoch (lower body injury) joins Mike Gilbert Jr (knee), Mike Lonergan (knee), and Dave Smith (groin) as players who have missed significant time to injury this season. "You usually have to deal with one guy a season-but 4 players including 3 defensemen-that's tough. We'll figure it out though and when those guys return, watch out." said Bomber management.

So here's to a speedy recovery for the injured Bombers.

Bombers Snare Predators

The Bombers have played the Predators twice this season and both games have followed a similar path. The Preds scored the first goal in both games but could not muster another in the contests. The Bombers rallied for 4 unanswered goals in Friday's event on goals by Bill Auld, Dave Bochner, Eric Hoyer and Tony D'anna. The win put the Bombers tied for second place with 8 pts-3 behind the Smoke who the Bombers have already beaten this season.

Dave Smith to Return x x x NOT

OOPS!! Dave Smith was a late minute scratch and in fact will need more time than the post submitted earlier would indicate.
Dave Smith will return to the red, white, blue and gold after missing the first 5 games of the season with a groin injury. "It was about as black and blue as you could get a few days ago. But I think I should be ready tonight. I'll give it a try." said Smith.

And don't forget fans, come meet your favorite Bombers after the game at "The Office" in Bridgewater.

Junior and Lonergan On DL

The trainer's room verified that both Mike Gilbert Jr and Mike Lonergan will be out of the lineup for tonight's game vs the Predators. Both have knee injuries. Junior looks to return on Tuesday when the Bombers face off against the Puck Pimps but Lonergan may be out for a few week pending results of an MRI.

Bombers Smushed by Spartans

It didn't look like the orginization could get out of its own way on Tuesday. The Bombers fell behind early and were never able to recover, falling to the Spartans by an unexpected 8-3 score.

"That's the worst BSA loss we ever had."noted goalie Josh Burke. The Bomber fell to 3 and 2 on the season with the loss. "We just got beat tonight. No two ways about it" noted Bobby Calvano.

Bombers look to rebound on Friday when they play the Predators at 9:25pm. Good tickets still available at the BSA box office and ticketmast.com

Wha?!? Name Change?

A wild rumour took a strong foothod on the internet following Tuesdays 8-3 loss to the Spartans. A story surfaced on weneedmorebodies.com that Bomber management was contemplating renaming adult hockey's most historic franchise to the "Crazy Eights". A source within the Bomber orginization said "That is untrue. We were just throwing out marketing ideas for the Spring season. Since we only play with eight guys in the spring we thought it might play well with the fans."

Apparantly the source was misinformed because there already is a grassroots movement forming that uses the slogan-"Please Don't Blow Up The Bomb!" It is unrealistic that this is nothing more than a rumour and the historic Bomber Hockey should be safe but the Bombers look to increase their player attendance just in case. "We don't want to fool around with something like that." said Bomber forward Bobby Calvano.

So don't get used to eight players being the norm for the Bombers this season. "We will have more guys on Friday. Really." said Bomber captain Bill Auld. Let's hope so cap. lets hope so.

Lonergan First Bomber Trick (and then some)

Newest Bomber, Mike Lonergan, made his presence felt on Tuesday with 4 goals and an assist in the 11-3 rout of the Cyclones. The win was the 3rd of the season vs one defeat and has the organization in good position in the standings.

The ice was sticky at the infamous BSA red rink but the Bombers were able to capitalize on shaky Cyclone goaltending to build a 6-1 first period lead. Bomber captain Bill Auld was not entirely impressed noting, "That was the worst 6-1 period a team could have." Fortunately the Bombers were able to pick up their play and continue the scoring trend even when backup goaltender Givem D. Feivehol took over for the Cyclone starter. "We weren't playing all that well, but we were able to keep scoring" added Bomber forward Bobby Calavano who scored 2g and 3a after 2 games on the dl.

In the third the Cylcones went back to their starting goalie but Brian Leetch type rushes from Mike Gilbert Sr spoiled the return. On one rush Senior got an assist on Rober's tally going end to end in the process.

So the Bombers are building momentum and gelling as a team. "It was good to see Mikey get his hat trick-plus one. I retrieved the puck for the Bomber Hockey Museum!"

Next up for the Bombers- a Tuesday May 11th matchup with the Spartans.

Bombers Bounce Back

After losing in disappointing fashion one night prior, the Bombers bounced back and beat a highly rated Predator team in convincing 5-1 fashion.

After allowing the first goal of the contest the Bombers changed the momentum with 4 straight first period goals from B.Auld, Brian Kostrowski, Dave Bochner and Eric Hoyer. Although the Bombers managed only 1 more goal in the final two stanzas, they were never really threatened by the Predator bunch. The Bomber defense made sure of the victory by allowing only 17 total shots from the attacking Predators.

Mike Lonergan playing in his first game with the storied franchise converted quickly with a crafty assist on B. Auld's first goal. Welcome to the club Mike.

Red Dogs Bark Back Late

The Red Dogs snatched victory from the jaws of defeat during Wednesday's contest with the Bombers. Down 3-2 late in the third the Dogs scored a power play goal with 2:03 remaining and followed that up with the game winner 57 seconds later.

"We should have had that one" said Bomber defensemen Mike Gilbert Jr.

The Bombers will need to quickly learn from their mistakes-they face the winter regular season champ Predators on Thursday.
