Winter '09 Superlatives

The Bomber Hockey Club did not fare as well as hoped in the Winter 2009 season, but hey-they looked sharp anyway.

We did see some changes to the leaders this year with Superstar Johnny Z winning his first scoring title from the D-line- our own Bobby Orr! Another perennial category leader was beaten out this year as Bobby Calvano yapped his way to the penalty minute title. In another oddity, Jimmy Lawson had more assists than goals-good work #18.

The GM would like to aknowledge the Lady Byngers as well-
Rober
Bochner
Senior
Richie
Rosenberg
Seargent Smith
Big G
and Adam.

All these guys received zero penalty minutes for the season. This reporter has just one thing to say "How'd they do that?"

As you will see we weren't big on the scoring but here are the complete season ending stats.

Bombers Win!

The Bomber Hockey Club is on a roll. And the proof was in a solid 3-2 victory over the powerhouse "should be in B league" Mountaineers. The Bombers never trailed in this game, utilizing a strong forecheck and responsible D zone play.

Jimmy Lawson filled in on the Time Line with Rober' and Mike Rosenberg and the trio had 5 points on the night. Rosenberg scored 2 goals on the night off sharp feeds from his Time linemates.

Although not up front, Bill Auld still saw fit to set up fellow "Fun Liner" Tony D'anna on a pretty second period goal. D'anna's seeing eye shot found light between the goalkeeper and the net was his fifth of the season.

Josh Burke was razor sharp in the contest allowing only 2. The Bombers held strong after the Mounties mounted a comeback scoring on a fluke goal with 1:58 remaining in the 3rd period. The goal will officially go down as the slowest goal ever to be scored against the Bombers as the Mountie player was unaware of where the puck was and failed to shoot but faked everyone out just enough to score the goal.

A Big Thank You From RVHFH

The Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity sent the following thank you note to the Bomber Hockey Club. The GM of the Bombers asked that it be proudly shown here for all the fans of the "Storied Franchise"

April 8, 2009

Dear Bombers,

On behalf of Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity, I want to thank you for taking the time to organize and play in the charity event! The fans were so excited! The event was a great success and not only brought us over $13,000 net but it afforded us great exposure within the community. The Courier News certainly found the event media savvy!

We can’t thank you enough for all you have done for our organization and for such a fun day!

Our plans to expand our building program are well underway. Last summer we dedicated the first four of eight homes in Franklin Township and the next four are well underway. At the same time, we are installing a road in Bridgewater for a nine home development that we will start later this year. The next project will be in Hunterdon County, where we are developing a project for eight homes in Kingwood. Our focus is not just on the houses, it is also on the many more families we are able to serve because of generous supporters like you.

All of us at RVHFH are committed to helping more hard-working families build better lives by building their own modest, affordable homes. We thank you for your support and participation in our work.

In a spirit of partnership,

Lisa Fielding
Corporate & Community Relations Manager

The Bombers in turn would like to extend their thanks to the fine partnership, support and quality work done by RVHFH.

Winner of BVD Signed Jersey Announced!!

The signed jersey from the 2009 Charity Hockey Classic was initially to have been given away to Mike Gilbert Sr in an effort to quell the pain of being injured for the game. But the player turned coach of the event declined because he informed us that he had already received a signed jersey from the 2007 Classic.

Well that was my mistake and because of this every one who has not yet received such a jersey is back in the running for the prized piece of Bomber history. With names like Chico Resch and Ken Daneyko along those of all your Bomber heroes it will surely become a collector's item

The voting was done by a third party auditor and was conducted in deepest secrecy. These pictures below prove the authenticy and care that went into the selection. So with out further delay the recepient of this year's Charity Hockey Classic Jersey is:
