Bombers Lose 2nd in a Row

The Bombers lost a close battle with the Puck Pimps 7-4 on Tuesday evening. Superstar Johnny Z and Brian Kostrowski were forced to log all the D minutes as Dave Smith was a late minute scratch with flu like symptoms. Their performance was inspiring as Zimnoch notched a natural hattrick in the 2nd period and Kostrowski skated the whole game with what turned out to be only 2 rivets in his right skate.

The Captain switched lines midway thru the game due to his own poor play that resulted directly into two Puck Pimp goals and a plus minus of minus 4. "I was killing those guys. Rober' and Ulfie were working hard and I wasn't." The change provided immediate results as the trio of Rober, Ulfie, and Jr netted a goal by #13 on the next shift.

The Bombers though were outmanned in numbers, never holding a lead in the contest. They did mangage to fight back from a two goal deficit twice in the game. When the Bombers fell down 2 goals again in the third they were not able to recover. A empty net goal by the Pimps with 15 seconds remaining sealed the deal.

The Bombers don't dish out 3 star performances for losses but the play of the defensemen in this contest warrant a variance from that rule on this occasion.

So here you have it- the State Electric Power Performers of the Game:

1st Star: "Superstar" Johnny "Rocket" Zimnoch 3 goals and mucho minutes.

2nd Star: Brian "My Left Foot" Kostrowski- Mucho minutes on one left foot.

3rd Star: Mike Gilbert, Jr 1g

Friggen' Admirals Smoke Bombers Again

The Bombers are having a pretty good season so far-except for when they play the Admirals. The club has given the Bombers fits this season, beating them 6-2 in the first contest of the season and then 7-2 last night.

The Bombers started the game pretty stout defensively but made two major gaffes, one by Bill Auld who turned the puck over in the D-zone to allow a two on zero breakaway. Johnny Z, who rarely makes a mistake, honed in his inner "Pincher" a la SR, which allowed the Admirals to go in on a 3 on 1 odd man rush. Both mistakes resulted in goals and left the Bombers down 2-0. A strong second period saw no goals for the Bombers but no goals against until late in the period when the visitors scored 2 goals in 21 seconds.

With the score 4-0 going into the third period, the Bombers were forced to open up the play which resulted in two goals for but three goals against. A 7-2 score against a Admiral squad that seems to have the Bombers number.

On a positive note- the locker room was abuzz as Bomber veteran winger Tony D'anna was cleared for light skating and tested his injury by skating with the squad in pregame warmups. "It felt great actually. No issues right now. Just need to get in game shape." said D'anna. Although no date is set, the wheels are at least in motion for a return to the active lineup by D'anna.

Bombers Defeat the Whale

The Bombers needed a shootout to beat the high flying Whalers 6-5 on Tuesday Nov 22. Bill Auld scored 2 goals, to give him six in his last three games and Bob Calvano, John Zimnoch and Lupe Poltarak provided the other Bomber scoring. Jean Eric Hoyer' had 2 assists on the evening and scored the only goal in the shootout. Josh Burke denied all shooters in the shootout-a common occurance for the Bomber netminder- to secure the victory.

Bomber Captain Fullfills Lifelong Dream

Bomber Captain Bill Auld was able to fullfill his lifelong dream to operate a Zamboni-cleaning the ice surface at the storied Aspen Ice Rink of Flemington, NJ. "It was quite emotional, really. To have it finally happen for me was something special." said a teary eyed Auld. "I did pretty well, only missed a spot or two." But its not about that, its about all the people who got me to this point." No one is exactly sure who the people are that Bill was referring to, but hey it was his day, his moment. Bill's wife was nevertheless thrilled, adding "So exciting!."

Word of the accomplishment quickly spread internationally. Fellow Bomber, Chachi Galante, spoke from the second-largest city in Canada -the city originally called Ville-Marie, or "City of Mary" whose present name is derived from Mont-Royal,the triple-peaked hill located in the heart of its boundaries. Commonly referred to as "Mont RĂ©al" by its francophonian occupants-the city is of course none other than Montreal-the home of hockey. Reading from a prepared statement Galante shouted, "it is a proud day to be a Bomber. It is a proud day for us all."

No word on any future Zamboni rides for Auld but this photo from a practice session may shed some light on that answer.

Bombers Lose 4-3 in Shootout

The Bombers have had a bit of a struggle against the sister clubs Storm and the Smoke in recent days. The last two Storm games have been 1 goal affairs, with the Bombers winning 1 in a shootout and losing the other in regulation. When the Smoke came in it was more of the same-a 4-3 shootout loss this time in another game the Bombers had well in hand early.

The Bombers built up a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Bill Auld and Neil Van der horn's 2nd in three games. A strong 2nd period by the Smoke saw that lead evaporate. and the Smoke took their first lead 1:30 minutes into the thrid when Bill Geddes went end to end to make the score 3-2.

Always the battler, Brian Kostrowski scored to tie it for the Bombers with a little more than 5 minutes remaining. A late battle led by some tenacious effort by Rober' Auld in the Smoke zone yielded some excitement but no goals and the clubs were headed toward a shootout.

Pete Giordano, playing his first game for the organization, substituting for an absent Josh Rayho, let up only one goal in the shootout. Unfortunately for the Bombers, none of their shooters could figure the Smoke keeper.

"Yo Ahab, whose next for the Bombers?"-oh that's right-the Whalers.

Vudoo Help Cure What Ails Bombers

It had been a tough few games for the storied franchise. A 6-2 drubbing at the hands of the Admirals and a 3-2 loss to the Storm in a game they should have won. What the Bombers needed was a little boost of confidence to get them back on their game. And the Vudoo who are having a tough season in the B3 division, helped the Bombers get back on track.

"They're a good group over there but the down a few key guys. We really jumped on them early." said Bomber cap Bill Auld. They did indeed jump on the Vudoo straight out of the gate scoring 2 goals in the first 1:10 of the game. Bomber Defensemen Brian Kostrowski had yet to even get out of the locker room by the time his teammates built up the 2 goal lead. "I thought the scoreboard was showing the score from the last game." said Kostrowski.

All in all the Bombers put an 8 spot on the Vudoo, allowing only 3 goals against. Jean Eric Hoyer' scored 4 goals to go along with 3 assists and Bill Auld had a hattrick and 3 helpers. Mark Poltorak extended his goal scoring streak to 4 games with a goal in 1st period.

Next up a game versus the Smoke . . . or is it the Storm . . . never quite sure.

Storm Rally -Defeat Bombers 3-2

The last time the Storm and the Bombers faced each other it was a barnburning 7-6 shootout victory for the storied franchise. But this game was a much tighter, low scoring battle that saw the Storm come from behind late in the third to defeat the Bombers 3-2.

Brian Kostrowski and Mark Poltorak scored for the Bombers who with the defeat were handed their second loss in row.

Admirals Down Bombers 6-2

Perhaps it was the late start time or perhaps it was the small number of skaters, but the Bombers did not have much punch during a 6-2 loss to the admirals on Tuesday Oct 26th. The Bombers were never in the contest only managing a goal each from John Zimnoch and Mark Poltorak. The loss puts the Bombers record at 4-2 on the season.

Bombers Survive a Wild Storm

The Bombers managed a 7-6 shootout victory on Oct 24th in a wild affair that saw the visiting Storm tie the game with 11 seconds left in regulation. "That one was on me." said goaltender Josh Burke who uncharacteristally took his eye off of the puck on a shot that game from behind the redline. Rober, acting as captain due to the absence of Bill Auld who was on a scouting assignment in upper Wisconsin, encouraged Burke to redeem himself in the shootout. "I told him -you are going to stop everything- and win the game for us!" And that is exactly what Burke did, denying all shooters.

The game also marked the return of fan favorite Neil Van der horn to the lineup. Neil made his presence known, scoring the goal of the evening-a laser-like top corner short side shot that was described by winger Jean Eric Hoyer' as "the fastest shot I've seen all season."

Hoyer himself scored 2 on the evening as did Loop Poltorak. Mike Gilbert, Jr and Van der horn's goal rounded out the scoring. Jean Eric and JZ scored in the shootout to give the Bombers their fourth win of the season.

Van der horn Signs On The Dotted Line

Bomber fans and players rejoiced at the news Neil Van der horn did indeed sign on for the remainder of the FW 11-12 season. "The itch to play again was too much. The travel is tough but scoring a goal in my first game back in front of all those fans-I had to make it official."

And so it is, #5-Mr. Versatility, so named because he is the only player in Bomber history to play all 6 positions on the ice as well as serving in the capacity of coach, IS BACK.
