Silverman Plays Hero in Front of Legends

The Regulars, 0-10 in the regular season faced the Bombers in the first round of the Summer 14 Fed South playoffs.  The Bombers quickly found out their opponents record meant nothing as they were forced to play on their heels much of the first period.  The Regulars attacked relentlessly with a fast paced offense helped by a few players that seemed a bit unfamiliar in the orange sweaters.

The Bombers on the other hand went with a veteran lineup including two thirds of the legendary Time Line as well as a coaching performance by #7 Mike Gilbert, Sr.  Mike Rosenberg and Gary Simpson perhaps missed their Time Line centerman Rober' Auld (still on IR) but geared up nonetheless much to the delight of Kyle Kappmeier who deftly played the pivot on this night.  A classic Mike Rosenberg shot over the shoulder of the Regulars goalie Tyler Levoinen provided the first Bomber goal in the second period but the trio nearly scored on their very first shift.

The Regulars kept up the attack and scored on a pretty play to regain the lead in the second. With 3:09 left in the second stanza a worried Bomber team was able to tie it up to set up a dramatic third period. Scoring chances were not in short supply including a late power play by the Regulars but neither team could find the back of the net. Overtime looked to be the order of the evening until Bomber centerman Eric Silverman, perhaps empowered by the aura of all the Bomber stars in the lineup, found a way to backhand a puck to the back of the net with 55 seconds remaining. Dave Smith and Tony D'anna provided the helpers on the game winner.
