Flying Aces Offer Friendly Challenge

Looking to build upon the budding friendly rivalry with the Bombers, the Flying Aces have stepped up their game and will bring with them to Thursday's game something they are calling the Air Supremacy Cup.  The concept says Flying Aces captain Darren Jones is "to have the AS Cup up for grabs any time the Bombers and Flying Aces play each other."  The name is derived by the two clubs aviation inspired nicknames and is awesome in its beauty and grandeur.  "It has a real retro 1979 grade school soccer trophy feel to it" noted Bomber captain Bill Auld.  Ryan Bleck of the Aces joked "I hope we didn't just buy the Bombers a trophy!"  The two squads split their games in Federal League play last season so its safe to say the AS Cup will be changing hands more often than not.

The first game in which the cup will be up for grabs will be Thursday 1/23 @8:45 in the friendly confines of Aspen Ice Flemington.  Plenty of good seats still available.

Bombers Fall in Semis

Here we go!  The game is yet a minute old and the Bombers already have a 1-0 lead.  "Ok, lets go to the prevent defense" could be heard by many a Bomber on the ice knowing that the Mulligans would be a tough nut to crack to advance to the Federal League finals.  Well, 5 unanswered goals were the answer for the Mulligans who were just the better team on this night.  The Bombers had a depleted bench but the Mulligans would have been tough for anyone in this semi-final matchup.

Bombers Advance-Will Play Mulligans

The Bombers fell behind 3-0 in the opening stanza of their first round playoff match vs the Smoke. In between periods a position switch was made and it paid big dividends.  Scott Lundeen switched from Defense to offens with Superstar Johnny Z and promptly scored the first two goals of the second period. One more in the third gave Lundeen the hat trick helping his squad come from behind and finish off the Smoke 7-5 to advance to play the first seed Mulligans in semifinal playoff action.

John Zimnoch, Drew Campbell, Bobby Calvano and Rober' Auld off a nice one timer rounded out the scoring for the Bombers.  Josh Burke got past the early Smoke onslaught and kept his team in the game with stellar saves in the third.

ROSENBERG!!!!!!!!

Mike Rosenberg made a surprise return to the lineup.  Only team owners and the medical staff were aware of his return.  "That looks like Mike Rosenberg, wait that is Mike Rosenberg" noted Bomber winger Tony D'anna.  Indeed it was number 3 and he proved to the Bomber faithful early on that rust would not be a factor, scoring the game's first goal.  Ever one to deflect the praise, Mike's only comment about the goal was "I had good line mates."

Kyle Kappmeier and John Zimnoch rounded out the scoring in the eventual 3-2 win over the Comeback Kids to end the regular season schedule.

Next up for the Bombers, a playoff matchup with the Smoke.
