Bombers Win But at What Price?

The Bombers won convincingly Monday 6-1 vs the Smoke. That was the good news. The bad news for the storied franchise was the win may have cost them one of their leaders for a good deal of time. "I disloated my patella. Done it before and I know its that." said Bomber defensive legend Mike Gilbert, Sr after a fluke collision with a Smoke forward left him sprawled out on the defensive zone ice.

Bomber management took a "wait and see" appoach to the injury but they do fear it will cost the team one of their top defensemen for a considerable amount of time. This is not the first time-he has the scars to prove it. But he sets his goals and keeps coming back. We need him so we are happy that's the way he is approaching also approching this."

The injury was unfortunate not only because of its outcome but how it happened. "The Smoke player stepped on the puck and fell as if he stepped on a banana peel-almost launching his body right into Mike." said Bomber forward Bill Auld who was trailing the play.

So coupled with the temporary reassignments of Neil "Slava" Vanderchuk and Jeffrey "Sha-na-na" Bowser, the injury to Senior will force the Bomber GM to make some calls to shore up the lineup. "We have a few star players that may be able to make their returns soon, namely the 2nd all time modern era goal scorer, Mark Bochner and fan favorite Gary Simpson-member of the Time Line- the greatest scoring line in Bomber history."

The players left on the ice took it upon themselves to win the game for fallen comrade and were led by a hat trick from Mike Rosenberg who also tapped in two assists. Jean Eric Hoyer' netted two of his own to extend his goal scoring streak to 7 games-scoring 15 goals in that span. The defense rebounded from the loss of Sr and saw John Zimnoch and Brian Kostrowski logging many, many minutes of ice time. Mike Gilbert Jr picked up his game and his dad's equipment notching a goal and 2 assists.

Next up for the Bombers- a late night game vs the Predators on Monday November 1.
