Bombers & Puck Pimps Put on Show
Tuesday's game vs the one loss Puck Pimps was a contest that would allow the Bombers to measure how well they were really playing in their recent resurgence up the standings. The 2 game winning streak, although impressive for the offensive output, was also not against a team like the Puck Pimps, who have been near the top of the standings most of the season. "The Puck Pimps are a good defensive minded team with a low goals against" noted Bomber foward Neil Van Der Horn.
The game turned out to be one of the better played adult league contests in many a day with multiple lead changes and late minute scoring. It was a game eventually won by the Bombers after much late game excitement and a 6 round shootout battle.
The Bombers would score first, a goal by Bill Auld with just over two minutes to play in the period. The second period was tightly played and offered only one goal, that by Cory Rothlisberger fo the Puck Pimps on a breakaway.
The third period started with an even 1-1 score but would end with a scoring flurry. First up, a end to end run by the Bombers Mike Gilbert Jr giving them the lead. But with 3:05 left in the period the Puck Pimps drew the score even. Excitement for the Bomber faithful ensued when B. Auld stole the puck deep in the offensive zone and passed to The Loop in front for what looked to be the game winning goal with just 1:12 seconds remaining.
But the Puck Pimps were not a one loss for team for nothing and with the goalie pulled they tied the game with 18 seconds left, much to the dismay of the heavily Bomber centric crowd. Then the Puck Pimps made what turned out to be mistake in judgement. With 2 seconds remaining, the Puck Pimps top scorer took an unsportsmanlike penalty-disqualifying him from eligibility in the shootout.
The Bombers had all their lineup available but it took until the sixth round and second attempt by Jean Eric Hoyer' for the Bombers to score. Josh Burke was his usual perfection in the shootout turning aside all of the Pimps (much like in his off ice life).
The final result was a 4-3 victory to go along with some confidence that the Bomber winning streak has a good chance to continue.
Next up a game with Red Dogs on Dec 27th. Plenty of good seats still available.
