Well in came the Whalers. The much touted former B2 squad that many said could give the Bombers issues and potentially reassign the storied franchise to non league leader status. This game would be a test for the Bombers, one they were eager to take on.
And the team responded jumping out to a 4-0 lead at the conclusion of 2 periods of play. It seemed somewhat unexpected after the games initial buildup. The Bombers were really not in trouble the first two periods. The Whalers looked like a team that knew their ice well but the Bombers just looked better. But the third period showed the Whalers were not some B2 has been squad. They were better than that and rallied to tie the score at 4 forcing the second shootout for the Bombers in the last three games.
Showing the moxy of a team that has not yet lost a game this season, the Bombers entered the shootout with confidence-scoring on their first two attemps by Eric Hoyer and Mike Rosenberg. Josh Burke didn't allow the Whale to get a sniff of the net stopping both attempts to beat him giving the Bombers their 5th victory to start the season.
