A Rivalry Like No Other
The Bomber Hockey Club and the NJ Devil Alumni are going back to where it all began, bringing their highly successful "Charity Hockey Classic" to Mennen Arena in Morristown, NJ on Sunday, April 3rd at 1pm. The game will be the sixth installment between the two clubs. The previous five games have raised over $40,000 for local charities.
This year's event beneficiary will be The Joseph Lapinski Foundation. www.lapinskifoundation.org The JLF is a charity assistance program headed by Bomber Bill Auld. Auld commented, "Our goal is to raise monies that we can then donate to other worthwhile charities in our member communities. The JLF focuses on supporting causes in three major areas: Personal and Public Health, Family and Societal Relations and the Environment. With this event we will organize our efforts to help fund the important work of pancreatic cancer research."
Former NJ Devil captain Bruce Driver has worked tirelessly to put together these and other charity games as head of the NJ Devil Alumni Association. He has managed to bring the fans former Devil greats such as Ken Daneyko, Coach Larry Robinson and fan favorite Glen "Chico" Resch to prior "Charity Hockey Classic" games. "I will try to convince Chico to play goal again." noted Driver who acknowledges that his appearances are special because he doesn't do many. Bomber forward Rober' Auld remembers one of those such games "I won't forget that 2009 game, Chico was there, the Stanley Cup too- helping us raise money for Habitat for Humanity. It was great!"
Bomber Executive Director of Hockey Operations, Mike Rosenberg promised a new and exciting outlook for the 2011 game. "This will be our sixth Charity Classic and we are focused on pulling together the efforts of the entire organization to make this the most successful event to date." So be prepared for a new take on the now storied rivalry between your Bombers and the NJ Devil Alumni.
