Bombers Season Comes to an End
The Bomber Hockey Club fell to the Mountaineers on Sunday 9-2. The finish to the season seemed less than appropriate after the Bombers had worked their way into the playoffs with some inspired play. But the Mountaineers proved to be "B" level on this night and the Bombers could not keep up with their scoring.
The night started with an appropriate passing of the blueshirt "C" captaincy to worthy Mike Rosenberg. Management had hoped this may provide some inpiration for the contest ahead, and maybe it did, but the final score proved it was not quite enough.
The Bombers came out strong and held off the 1st place Mounties allowing only 1 goal in the first. But a six goal 2nd, including a controversial last second tally, put the kaibosh on any hopes of a championship. The Bombers did manage to score 2 in the period when members of the former "Generation" line Rober and Jimmy scored. Each goal was a vintage representation of their respective styles. Rober' scoring while being leveled in front of the net and Jimmy lighting the lamp with a blistering slap shot that may still be travelling if not for the netting.
So when the final buzzer sounded the Winter '08 season was over for the "most storied franchise". The fans in attendance showed the class that always follows the Bombers, by cheering the squad in appreciation for a season well competed. And fortunately they won't have to wait long to cheer again, because as they say- Bomber Hockey-only a week (or so) away.
I wonder what Spring '08 will find for our Red,White,Blue and Gold.
