Bombers on the Butt End of 8-5 Score vs the Shamrocks
The Bombers hoped to have more ammunition to avenge an early season loss to the Shamrocks when Jim Lawson was re-introduced to his teammates and Gary Simpson returned from parts unknown. Unfortunately it was not enough and the Bombers fell to the Shamrocks 8-5, losing their second game in a row.
Things started well as Simpson scored into an open net just one minute into the contest on a misplay by the Shamrock goaltender. Later in the same period Simpson added another tally into another open net on another misplay by the shaky netminder. Simpson said after the game "It was nice of the Shamrocks to welcome me back like that. The were'nt as nasty as their reputation." The wild first period saw a whopping 9 goals scored between the two teams.
The Bombers scored quickly to start the second period when Mike Rosenberg notched his second of the contest one minute and 41 seconds in to tie the score at 5. But that proved to be the last goal of the night for the Bombers while the Shamrocks managed 3 more tallies to take home the 2 points and move into first place in the league standings. The Bombers fortunately didn't lose any ground and remained in 4th place.
Next up for the Bombers an April 6 matchup with the Chatham Coaches.
Game notes:
*Mike Gilbert Sr played his last game prior to his season ending shoulder surgery. Sr asserted after the game "I'll be back!"
*Dave Smith failed to score and subsequently saw his goal scoring streak stopped.
*Bomber Captain Bill Auld's leadership was questioned by some when he got into a late game skirmish with a Shamrock enforcer after requesting calm in the pregame instructions. In a related story Gary Simpson was seen by reporters calling a kettle black.
