Kappmeier Debut a Trick and a Treat

Kyle Kappmeier made his Bomber debut in high fashion donning a loaned out historic #7 jersey and scoring a hat trick in a wild 6-5 victory over the Storm on Wednesday.  "It was an honor to wear the jersey." said a humble Kappmeier who because of being a late minute call up did not have his jersey made up in time.  Bomber legend Mike Gilbert, Sr was in attendance and graciously gave up his number and jersey to make the new kid feel at home.  "Hey, that's Bomber hockey!" noted Senior. The hat trick was the second time in recent memory when a debut also marked a hat trick for a Bomber rookie.  Dan Scerra accomplished the same feet during the Spring 2012 season.
The Bombers had a comfortable 6-3 lead with 2:02 seconds left in the third.  But two quick Storm goals left the outcome in doubt and the Bomber crew fought off a few last second goalmouth exchanges to secure the victory.  Jean Eric Hoyer' notched 2 goals and 3 assists, Bill Auld had 4 helpers and Mike Gilbert, Jr netted the game winner.  Ironmen John Zimnoch and Loop Poltorak played all 45 minutes of the contest on defense.  The depleted Bomber squads numbers got even more sparse when Rober' Auld was a late minute scratch attendening to his wife who had injured herself in a bizzare bathroom soffit debacle moments before the game.

Next up for the Bombers- a rematch with the Predators on Wednesday August 1.

Bombers Stumble out of Gate

Injuries and illness could be used as an excuse for a Bomber hockey club that has stumbled to an 0-2 record to start the Summer 12 season at BSA. Neil "Ulfie" Van der horn, Tony D'anna, Mike Gilbert,Sr,  and Gary Simpson are still on the long term disabled list. Mike Rosenberg has just joined that quartet with a diagnosis to his hip that may require surgery.  Bill Auld was down with strep throat for game one and although Jean Eric Hoyer' played in both games his productivity was down due to illness.  Adding to the depletion of the roster is the decision of two sport atheletes Mark and Dave Bochner to enter the professional team tennis tour and one can see why the Bombers have struggled to 4-0 and 6-3 losses to the Predators and Admirals respectively.  But in the competitive world of NJ adult ice hockey there are no excuses.

"We need to play Bomber hockey and do it with whatever lineup we can muster.  We are a storied franchise in part due to our history and the players we can call up-everyone is always ready to get their chance to play for the organization."  said Bomber capt Bill Auld.  The Bombers did call up "Dandy" Dan Scerra and Jimmy "the Cage" Chester for the team's first two contests-a callup that probably will keep the players up on the big squad for the remainder of the season.  The pair may initially look out of place to diehard fans who are unfamiliar with their work on their respective farm clubs, but they are contributing and learning more each game what it takes to be a Bomber and to wear the legendary jersey.

The Bomber GM also hinted to the media that further callups might still be in order for a team that will not make excuses in its quest for another title.  The club will need to get it together quick in the shortened Summer season and will get the chance to change its course at its next game- a Wednesday night affair with the Storm.
