Well, I am going to drop the reporter facade for this post and speak in my own voice for this one. Obviously a lot has happened since I last posted. I guess the best way to say it is my family, which of course includes the Bomber Hockey Organization suffered a major scare when Rober' had a heart attack soon after our game on December 21st.
That night and the weeks to follow were a crazy time but the support of the Bombers and all my friends and family helped me (and Rober' I would later find out) navigate my way through it. And it all started that night-Tony and I had not yet left the rink (as we are known to drag on the Bomber experience as long as possible)when I got the call from my Mom that Rober' was on his way to the hospital. Tony followed me to the hospital and kept me and my Mom stable and grounded in those first few hours. I'm so glad he was there. And like I said, in the days to follow you have all rallied around in support-thanks so much!
I was also able to rely TD as he took over the GM duties in my absence. His email informing the Bombers of the news hit all the right notes.
"Hey Bombers – our patriarch and pal Rober’, always giving his all, unfortunately suffered a heart attack after last night’s game. He is in critical condition, but trending in the right direction – ever the battler.
Send out all the Bomber prayers and good wishes, vibes, mojo, etc. you can. Rober’ and the very large family (Auld’s, Cicero’s, Lapinski’s, Bombers and on and on) around him all appreciate it. TD 33"
And those prayers, wishes, vibes, and mojo were felt and helped out more than I'll ever be able to say.
And since Rober' has asked me to relay his thoughts and appreciation to all of his Bomber family I guess I am reverting back to my reporter personna by giving you a few quotes and comments from the man himself!
When asked about all the support he received, Rober' was quick to say "I really want to thank everyone. Even when I was out of it there for a while I felt everyone's support in the hospital. It made a big difference. It had a positive effect-it lifted me up out of wherever I was."
Rober' added "I am extremely appreciative of all the support and want to thank everyone for thinking about me. I am on the way back and the docs say I will be able to be play hockey again. They didn't say when but they said I would be able. I am looking forward to getting back and being apart of the team again. My goal is to skate in the Devils Alumni game!"
Rober', you have never stopped being a part of the team and . . . Bad news for the Devil Alumni!!
Get well soon!
