The Ice Devils rattled off 4 first period goals en route to an 8-4 win on tuesday. The Bombers were able to tie the remaining two periods on 4goals by Jimmy Lawson, but the hole was too deep.
Whenever these two teams meet, penalty minutes are usually high and it looked like that may not be the case for the first two periods that saw 2mins in power play time for each squad. But the third period proved formulaic when the clubs and their captains exchanged verbal and physical shots at each other.
Next game is Tuesday June 24th v the Chatham Coaches in what can only be called a must win situation.

Bombers Put Out Fire 5-2
Now were talking. The Bombers got their first win of the spring '08 season with a solid 2 way performance. The 5-2 victory was as much of a must win you can have this early in the season.
The Bombers left the first period ahead 3-0 and managed to hold serve the next two periods for the 5-2 win. Jimmy Lawson again provided some scoring with 3 goals and perhaps more notably was able to finish the game with nary a penalty minute. Josh Burke played a solid game in net allowing only 2 goals. Bill Auld from the d-line had 3 assists on the night and Mike Rosenberg and Rich Moss rounded out the goal scoring.
Next up for the Bombers is a tough matchup with the Ice Devils. This reporter feels a change in fortune will come on Tuesday against their nemesis. Good luck Bombers!

Bombers Fall 5-3 to Angry Bears
The Bomber hockey club players are getting tired of moral victories. After falling 5-3 to an ever angry Bears team, Bomber alt. capt. Mark Bochner said-"We need to start winning those games. We are playing better than the outcome."
The Bombers held an early 2nd period 2-1 lead but as has been the case this season the opponents scored 3 goals in a row. Now down 4-2 halfway through the third, Bomber defensemen Neil Van der horn stepped up, making a stellar blueline save to keep the puck in the attacking zone. #5 then sent the puck deep and with the Bears caught by surprise the Bombers executed a sweet tick-tack-toe play from behind the net. Rober' completed the play by burying the puck in the twine. The scoresheet read Rosenberg to Junior to Rober and the Bomber bench now had life down a goal.
A Bear penalty with 1:19 remaining gave the storied franchise a chance at the seasons first win. With no timeouts remaining, confusion set in on whether to pull the goalie. With a 2 man disadvantage the Bears still were able to clear the zone and put the biscuit in the empty basket.
The third period was marred by a confrontation between Jimmy Lawson and the Bear's goaltender. With punches thrown by both players and with the initial penalty going to the goaltender, the Bomber's were obviously intrigued when the Stripes gave the netminder 8 minutes and Lawson 16 minutes.
So as is the Bomber credo, another chance is "only a week away". Next game Wed June 11th 10:30 versus the improved Metro Fire.

15-5 Is No Way to Start a Season
Well hopefully there is some good times ahead. The Bombers lost the first 2 games of the Spring 08 season by a combined score of 15-5. First the Bombers lost to the B-Rocks 7-2 and then followed that up with a 8-3 defeat against the hand of those hated Mountaineers. With the B and C leagues merged for Spring 08 the Bombers will have to raise their game. Their first chance to do that will be June 3 vs the Bears.
